BARON’S LUCK AT CARDS.
CLUB STOPS GAMBLING. The “Sporting Club” at Bad Ischl, Upper Austria-, -which had reason to expect the drastic intervention of the Vienna police, has sent away all its baccarat tables and .substituted afternoon tea tables. During the week-end violent scenes occurred in the club. The Polish Baron, Poglubowslcy, a regular visitor, after losing heavily, began making larger stakes when luck conspicuously favoured him.. This annoyed other players, and the Vienna theatre manager, Mischka Preger, asked bluntly whether the cards were properly shuffled and cut. Then several players demanded the return of thenstakes. Thorough investigation disclosed nothing whatever irregular, hut it was decided that gambling should cease.
There have been raids hv the Vienna oolice on gaming rooms at Baden, Voslau, and other places, which have’caused great discomfort to visitors, who had to go to the police station in the middle of the night.
