DONATIONS FOR CHARITY.
OPERATIC SOCIETY’S GENEROSITY TO-MORROW NIGHT’S CONCERT. Recognition of the generosity of the Hawera Amateur Operatic Society in recently staging a special performance of “Our Miss Gibbs” for the benefit of the Hospital Board and the Plunkec Society was made at a meeting of the Hospital Board to-day, when a cheque for £3O was received. The chairman, Mr- F. Gilianders, said the Board was more fortunate than the Plunket Society in that they would receive a £1 for £1 subsidy on the donation. The Plunket Society only got a subsidy in the form of a percentage of the nurse’s salary. The chairman also mentioned that a concert- was being given by local artists to-morrow night with a view to raising funds to purchase a piano for the Old Men’s Home. He said that local' people who visited the Old Men’s Home in order to entertain the inmates experienced difficulty owing to the- absence of a piano. Mr Remvick had approached him with a suggestion to give a concert to raise funds for the purchase of a suitable instrument, and the result was the entertainment to be given to-morrow night-. It had been suggested that if sufficient funds were not raised to-morrow night some of the money donated by the Operatic Society could he utilised in purchasing the piano.
