SERIOUS CHARGES.
—: » YOUNG MAN ADMITS STABBING. GRIME COMMITTED IN AN AUCKLAND PARK. (by telegraph—press association. * AUCKLAND, Oct. 18. The Police Court this afternoon was bcctijTied with a. charge against Edward Lteckie, aged 28, _of having assaulted Muriel Mii-f-y Hanlon and of indecently assaulting Miniiie -Saleh with intent to do grievous bodily harm in Albert Park Oh May 24, and of indecently assaulting girls of six years and -five years respectively. Evidence in the Salek case snowed that the young lady was stabbed between the shoulder blades, causing a ivouhd dhe inch long and two inches deep within an inch of her spine. Police evidence against Lerkie showed that lie was identified by footprints as Miss Salek’s assailant. Accused, in a statement, admitted that he followed Miss Salek from the Public Library. She walked in the light in the park. He became angry and caught hold of her, and afterwards stabbed her with a pocket-lcnife. The case is proceeding.
