HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(WEB,SEER ’S REPORT. Mountain Road: The culvert at the Tawhiti stream is now completed, the old culvert has been broken in, and the road ip open to traffic. Manawapou Bridge: The understrutting of this bridge is going on satisfactorily and will be completed within a short time. The top chord on the down stream side will have to be attended to, as some of the timber that it is composed of is rotten. The timber to repair the Tongalioe bridge is on the site, and this work will be taken in hand as soon as the Manawapou is finished. Ohawe Beach Road: It was decided by the riding members that to metal the. old road would be a waste of money, as erosion is taking place very rapidly in one place and the cliff is getting dangerously near the road, so a new road has been opened up, and the grading of same will be finished next week. This work will cost about £BO, and the residents are contributing £ for £. Division Road: This road has been scarified and graded, and is now in good order. Ahaipaipa Road: The metalling is now finished and has been rolled and blinded. Crusher: There was a mishap to the crusher early in the month. The casting that carries the swinging jaw broke in the centre, and a new one is being procured from Christchurch. Roller: The roller, which the county has had for about thirty years, has been stripped by the order of the Inspector of Machinery, and was given a thorough overhaul, and the shell of the boiler was found to be in a first-class condition. In fact, the boiler is as good as ever it was, with the exception of a few minor repairs that are required. The following roads have had shingle delivered on them in readiness for tarring: Meremere, Main South, Mokoia, Wliareroa, Bovlan, Austin, Ararata, Main South, Normanby, Hawera.
