AUCKLAND’S CIVIC SQUARE. .COMPETITIVE DESIGNS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. The jury of award have announced their decision in respect of the competitive designs for the proposed civic square. The first prize of £IOOO was gained by Messrs Gummer and Ford, of Auckland, the second (£300) goes to Mr Wade Bartley, of Auckland, and the third (£200) to Messrs Morgan and Massey, of Auckland. Nineteen designs were submitted, two coming from Australia, two from Wellington by one architect, and one each from Hamilton, Blenheim, Napier and London, the remainder being from Auckland.

The estimated cost of the work is £466,328, including a municipal building of £253,273, an art gallery of £198,055, the laying out of the area £15,000. The loan proposals will be submitted to the ratepayers in March.
