THE GAMING BILL.
REFERRED TO A COMMITTEE. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.') WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. The House of Representatives' met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Hon. R. F. Bollard gave notice that he would move next sitting- day that the Gaming Bill be referred to the following special committee: Messrs J. Bitchener, P. A. de la Perelle, W. S. Glenn, A. Harris, F. Langstone, C. E. MacMillan, C. J. Murdoch, M. J. Savage. G. Witty, Sir G. Hunter, the Hon. J. G. Coates, and the mover. A Governor’s message was brought dow-n fixing the reduction of land tax at 5 per cent., as recommended by the Public Accounts Committee, instead of 10 per cent., as provided in the original Bill. The message w\as, the Premier stated, purely formal, and it was agreed to without discussion.
The Hon. W. Dowuiie Stewart moved the second reading pro forma of the Trustees’ Amendment Bill with a view to referring it to the Statutes Revision Committee. This was agreed to. In considering the amendments made by the Legislative Council ' in the Medical Practitioners’ Amendment Bill, the Hon. Sir M. Pomare moved to agree with all the amendments, except that .made in clause 6-la. The Minister objected to this on the ground that "it would let in all the quacks in creation.” Managers were appointed to prepare reasons why this amendment should not be agreed to.
