COURT RETURNS.
SEPTEMBER QUARTER. Following are the returns of court cases for Hawera district for the September quarter, as given by the plerk, the figures for the 1923 ouarter being given in parentheses:—Criminal cases dealt with 135 (91), male cases 126 (84), lemale 9 (7), total fees and fines £551 10s 8d (£443 lls); fines £l5O lls 8d £/0 3s). ,'fhe fees, amounted to £365 7s (£ooJ 12s), and the licensing fees £2 (£/ 9s). the civil side the total amount fe r was £5209' Is 4d (£6631 10s llcl), the amount-sued for in cases actually tried £2362 4s IQd (£3281 lls 4d), and the amount recovered £2314 Is lCd (£3143 4s lOd). Other details are: Number of cases heard in chambers 9 (14), plaints entered 361 (325), distress warrants issued 64 (38), warrants of .committal 10 I), warrants of arrest 0 (0), summenses .and other processes served bv the bailiff 281 (247), warrants executed by the bailiff 16 (14). Seven new pensions claims were granted (8), one was refused (0), and six are pending (8)." Fifty-eight renewals were granted' (54), none were refused (0), and 10 arq. pending (11).
