HAWERA METHODIST CHURCH.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the above church was held last night, there being a laige attendance of officials presided over by Rev. J. W. Oxbrow. The church membership-' showed a large increase, particularly in the junior members, the aggregate being 443, with 11 probationers. Reports from the ofticials : in the Various departments were very satisfactory. Hawera State School meiribership 245, average attendance 194; Normanbyi State School roll 107, average attendance 95; Meremere roll 20. The attendance at both Hawera and Normanby schools is the highest in the history of each school.
The circuit stewards, T. ,T. ■ Hurr'ell and J. Foy, were elected delegates to attend the District Ohureh Synod meeting at Stratford-on November 18. A very hearty and unanimous invitation was extended to the Rtev. W. J. Oxbrow for a third year’s ministry in the circuit, most eulogistic references being made to his work. The invitation, was" cordially accepted on behalf of Mrs. Oxbrow and himself. The finances were satisfactory, the quarter’s work showing a credit. The Hawera Qhilrch raised over £3OO during the quarter, while, the total* .raised in the circuit for foreign missions was £l9O. / * Collections were authorised for home missions and Hawera and Normanby Mr. Hurrel (to act with Mr. BarraState Schools. dough) was appointed sustentation steward, and Mrs. Lacy and Mr. Reed were appointed to the hospital committee. The meeting closed at 10 p.m., the members partaking of refreshments at the invitation of the ladies.
