A JULES VERNE TRIP.

LONDON TO AUSTRALIA. IN 100 HOURS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Oct. 6. The newspapers give prominence to the Air Ministry’s statement that it is designing special aei-oplanes for different stages in the 10,000 mile route linking up Britain with Egypt,- India and Australia. The first stage, London to Zurich, is already operating, and an extension to Constantinople and Egypt will commence in 1925. The existing air force route will join up and carry on to Calcutta, via Bagdad. Between Calcutta and Rangoon allmetal -flying boats, which are proof against tropical weather, will he used. An extension will he made to Australia, via Singapore and Port Darwin. It is expected that mails will reach Australia from London in 100 hours. The Australian airways will take over the air traffic from Port Darwin.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. FLIGHT ACROSS TASMAN. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. Replying to a question in the House to-day, Mr Massey said the Government had not been approached with a view to giving a State subsidy towards an aeroplane flight from New Zealand and Australia, which would probably cost from £7500 to £BOOO. If and when the Government was approached they would be. glad to take the matter into their serious consideration and to co-operate with the Australian Government.
