The Columbia University has announced, after three years’ consideration, that it plans to begin immediately the construction of what it believes will be the greatest medical centre in the Avorld, costing approximately 12,000,000 dollars, embodying the latest developments in co-operation between hospitals, medical colleges, and research institutions. The first structure, costing 10,000,000 dollars, will house the Presbyterian Hospital and the College of Physicians and Burgeons. The two are the most famous institutions in the United States, and are now affiliated Avith Columbia. There will be available Avhen the centre is completed the services of the leading specialists in every branch of medicine and command the most modem equipment. It will include also dental schools, maternity hospital, children’s hospital, and neurological institute. Both private and public patients will be treated, and co-operation Avith municipal authorities Avill be carried out. The Avork Avill probably take 10 years to complete.
