It is learned from an Egyptian source, with, reference to the AngloEgyptian conversations, that Mr MacDonald informed Zaghlul that it Avas impossible to Avithdra/w British troops from Egypt, because they were needed for the protection’ of the canal. Zaghlul’s proposal to the protection of the canal to the League of Nations was not acceptable. Mr. MacDonald proposed an AngloEgyptian alliance, to which' Zaghlul agreed, but ho said this Avas impossible while British troops remained in Egypt. Mr. MacDonald replied that the troops were not for the protection of Egypt, but for the protection of the canal. — Reuter.
