PROPOSED NEW HOSPITAL.
BOARD ADOPTS PLANS. Plans for the proposed new hospital were adopted by the Hospital Board on Saturday night, when members stated that they expected the Minister’s final consent to be forthcoming immediately, thus allowing of a. contract being let before Christmas. The plans were presented by Messrs J. Duffill and W. Crichton, representing the joint architects —Messrs Duffill and Gibson, of Hawera, and AfcKay and Haughton, of Wellington—and the members of the Hospital Board present were Messrs F. Gillanders (chair), G. W. Tayler. J. J. Meldon, A. Wills. A. Campbell, J. S. McKay, E. A. Washer, and E. J. Gifford. Alembers spent some time examining the plans, and finally passfed a motion adopting the plans and instructing the secretary to make application for tbp Minister’s final consent. The buildings are to he the first portion of a complete and' comprehensive scheme, and consist of four ward blocks, kitchen, nursery, administration, operating and laundry blocks, and a nurses’’home. Built in brick, with hollow walls, the building will be onestoried generally, except the administrative and kitchen blocks, which will be two-storied, and the nurses’ home, which will be three-storied. The building will be finished in red brick.
