BOY KILLED.

KICKED BY A HORSE. Through being kicked in the head by a horse a boy named Herbert David Pittams, aged 11 years, was killed at Midhirst last night (the News reports). The boy, who was one of several children in the family, was sent to turn his father's cows into the night paddock between five and, six o’clock last night. In doing so he noticed the factory horse in amongst the cows', and attempted to drive in into a smaller paddock, where it could be easily caught when wanted in the morning." Just as the horse was passing through the gate the lad flapped the overcoat he was carrying under his arm in order to hasten the horse. Usually a quiet animal, it became excited. and flinging up its heels dashed, ahead. One of the iron-shod heels struck the boy on the head, and he died in five minutes. A doctor was called, but he could only pronounce life extinct.

Great sympathy is felt with Mr and Mrs Pittams and family, who, though but recent settlers in Midhirst, have become very popular in the neighbourhood.
