HAWERA CLUB

A visit to the above club’s green shoAvs signs in no unmistakable way of the fast approaching opening day. During the past week or so. the green has frequently been cut and rolled, and' is now beginning to look very tempting for a game. In fact some of the mepibers with an over-keenness for the game haA T e "been indulging in a “roll up,” and the consensus of opinion Avas “she’s playing well. ’’ With the -object of improving the playing surface of the green die club, at the close of last season," piocured from Waverley a truck of papa soil for top-dressing purposes for the coming season. Present indications point in the direction of a most beneficial effect, as the green is nicely' covered with a most beautiful coat of turf, and Avith the special attention given it by the green committee it is anticipated that the green will be second to none in Taranaki.

Last Saturday afternoon tA\’o rinks AA’ere in full swing, and the play Avas remarkably good Avhen one considers the neAvness of the green. At a meeting of the members on the green "on Saturday afternoon an election of neAv members took place, when the following gentlemen Avere duly elected: Messrs. G. W. Asliton, J. Bootfcen, D. Burgess. F. E. Ciarke, W. W. Davy, J. Deacon, Evan Evans, ■R, P. Goodchap, A: Hampton, R. Mortloek, J. A. McCall um, J. A. Rodie, C. A. Sadler, J. N. Strother, J. Stuart, and J. D-. ’fait.
