The Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St. reports the failure of expenments with a new ball with which it was hoped to restore the balance between the length of the holes and the power of the club, apd thus restrain long drivers and reducte the acreage required for first-class courses. tried were solid cored, larger and smaller than the present type, also floaters, but all' the results were negative. It was decided to continue the experiments.—Sydney Sun Cables.

Zealand ladies’ golf championship, -Mrs Peake (Cambridge) beat Miss Snodgrass (Rotorua), 3 up and 1; Miss M. Payton (Auckland) beat Miss O. Kaye (Whangarei), 3 up and 1. Pbe Mellsop Cun was won bv Mrs Guy Wdhams (Wellington). Mrs Williams and Mrs Slack tied for the best gross score, Mrs Williams winning the play-off by a stroke. The final of the championshin will be played to-morrow.
