LAND AND INCOME

AMENDMENT TO BILL.

(By Telegraph.— Special to Star.)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. lhe only change made in the annual Land and Income Tax Bill by the Public Accounts Committee, which reported on the Bill to-day, is in. the final clause of the schedule setting out the amount of land tax. This clause sets out the same rates of land tax as in last year’s Act. but is governed by a final sub-clause, providing that from the land tax computed in accordance with the' foregoing rates there shall be deducted in every case an amount equal to ten per cent. The. committee has altered this percentage to five. The Prime Minister, when questioned on the subject by your correspondent, said that the alteration was recommended by the committee with his com currence, as it would make room for a corresponding reduction of the land tax on mortgages.
