MOTHER’S HELP

! EXCELLENT WORK DONE

GOVERNMENT GRANT PROMISED

(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION,) ' WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. A deputation from the Mothers’ Help Division in Wellington. to-day asked the Prime Minister for support for the work which now occupies helpers in assisting mothers of small children. Some years ago the Government made a grant of £IOO, but this was withdrawn during the financial stringency. The society considered that though' the work at present was only carried on in Wellington, it was of. a national character.

Mr Massey agreed that the society was doing excellent work in a quarter where it was urgently needed. He promised to recommend the inclusion of a grant in the Supplementary Estimates, but he .could not say yet what the amount would be.
