WELLINGTON ON TOUR, DEFEATED BY SOUTHLAND. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! INVERCARGILL, Sept. 17. / Southland defeated Wellington by 8 points to 3 after a tight, strenuous game. The conditions were ideal. The Wellington forwards were clever in tight work and in the line-outs, but the hacks, who had most cf the ball, lacked sting. The Southland backs, particularly Hazlett, were superior, and the forwards were better in the open. Wellington’s score came from a long pass across the ground, Beddell scoring.
Southland’s first tirv came from Bell beating the opposition and passing to Murray, who scored. In the second spell a pass along the backs went tc McEwan, who, after a diagonal run, scored under the posts. Rice converting. Wellington tried many “pots” in the second spell, but without result. BUSH DEFEAT KING COUNTRY. PAHIATUA, Sent. 17. Bush defeated King Country by 18 points to 14 to-day. The game was played in a light drizzle. Tries for Bush, were scored by S. Tait (2), Ferguson, E. Humphrey, F. Burtliug and Ware, and the King Country tries were scored by Parrant and Synords, while O. Raleigh converted one and kicked two penalties. At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night a deputation was appointed to await on the newspaper proprietors and the Press Association with a viery to obtaining the personnel of the teams included in the report of the games of the All Black tour. FUTURE TOURS. INVITATION TO BRITAIN. WELLINGTON, Sept. 17. The question of future tours came up for consideration, at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night. Mr. A. C. Kitto, the chairman said that they ought to suggest to their
ueiegates at Dome the wishes of the Dominion on the matter. He mentioned that they had agreed to annual exchange visits with New South Wales. Mr. McKenzie thought' they -should have an English team in 1926, 'and it was agreed to invite a team from Britain. It was pointed out that New Zealand owed a visit to South Africa, and it was decided to inform the delegates that they were prepared to consider a tour to Africa in 1925.
