MISHAP TO‘ GLENTRUIN

<IS CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Sept. 17. Glentruin’s mishap has proved, more serious than was anticipated. It appears that there is little chance of the horse again racing during its present visit to Sydney. On the advice of a veterinary surgeon Price has scratched the mare for the Hill. Stakes and the Epsom. Father’s Voice, Bosh and Bonaparte have been scratched for the Hill Stakes, making seven acceptors. Ballymena has been scratched for the JRosehill Cup and Glentruin for* the Camellia Stakes. Yvith Ashley Ivteed Ai the saddle Nigger Minstrel did a flattering gallop at Randwiek on the middle of the grass track. The first three furlongs \vere covered in 36fsec., five in Imin. 3sec\, seven in Imin. 29tsec., and the mile in 1 min. 43sec.

Gloaming, who got a slight knock on the hind leg on Saturday, was bandaged and did steady work on the tan. Glentruin and The Cypher were also on the easy list.

As Siaosi has only been in work about a month his performance, at Wanganui was a good one. As he will race as a gelding this season he may show more consistent form. The well-known rider M McGarten is at present having a holiday at the Bine Mountains. He intends returning to the Dominion next week. At the Wangami i meeting a prospective buyer tried hard to induce Mr. h . Moore to put a. price on Reremoana, but the only reply , lie could‘get was “not for sale.” Prior to the XVanganui meeting Mot lev was more than a match for Deluge" but while the latter won like a tradesman, Motley failed completely. Possibly the Absurd filly may do better after spring. ; At the late Wanganui meeting the totaiisator figures were £543 more than last spring meeting, on a £60,344 turnoyer; yet the gate receipts showed the big increase of £2OO over the corresponding meeting last year. Counter Attack ran one of bis best races at the Marton meeting, held a couple of weeks ago, and in a moderate class field at Otaki the imported one should command respect. The successes of Glengariff and Bonogne at Wanganui .have advertised their sire, Bisogne, and a number of well performed mare are visiting him this season. Included in the list are those once good performers Dainty Step and Sycorax. That once promising performer Valerie lias definitely been retired from the race track, and was sent to Hawke’s Bay a few days ago on a visit to King Mark. After The Banker had failed at Wanganui ou Saturday, trainer Cox luid practically decided'not to take that three-year-old north for the Avondale Guineas; but after studying the probable starters, and with the chance of a very weak field, it was eventually decided on to take The Banker to Avondale.

On present appearances the field for the Avondale Guineas will be a weak one. The Wanganui Guineas winner, Inferno, is not engaged, and Gail Jard and Subjection are not making the trip, so present indications point to the Taranaki’ “hacks” The Banker and Glengariff having chances in tlie northern classic. The ,_mix-up in the Spring Hack Handicap' at Wanganui last Saturday caused a number of runners to receive knocks that will keep them off the race tracks for a time. Papaponga was stripped in good condition at AVanganui, and looked certain to pick up a race, at Dannevirke and Otaki, hut the fall lie got on Saturday was a severe one and the black fellow will want a short spell in consequence. The imported Sky Blue, which cost I Mr. E. Riddiford something like a thousand guineas, was expected to run well at AVanganui on Saturday; but while out for the race Sky Blue got a nasty knock, which has caused his trainer to spell the English-bred one.' But for the fact that he is “parrotnosed,” tlie English bred Royal Divorce would be hard to find fault in. He is a beautiful actioned horse, and although far from ready at present he mads bis opponents ‘in the Eclipse Stakes at Wanganui, look like so many cart horses. One is safe in stating that Royal Divorce will go far in the winning list if lie keeps, sound.
