BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Sept. 17: The Australian Press Association’s Hamburg correspondent says Carr ‘won a fifty metres race in 5 l-10see., and a hundred metres in 11 l-10sec., by a small margin, owing'to a strained ieg. POLO. AMERICANS DEFEAT BRITISH. NEW YORK, Sent. 16. The United States won the second polo, match’ by 14 goals against Britain’s five, and retains the international polo trophy. The third match wilt be played without affecting the outcome.

REMARKABLE PLAY. YOUNG FRENCH GIRL. LONDON, Sept. 17. Madamoiselle Delachaume, a French girl golfer under 16, easily won her two first matches in the girls’ open championships at Stoke Goges. She amazed experts by long driving and her mashie pitches. She reached the eighth gireen, 330 yards, with her drive and an iron shot, and the twelfth green, 400 yards, with two wooden club shots. The; AVanganui Golf Club’s tournament opened to-day in unpleasant weather, owing to rain overnight, and the fairways and greens were, heavy. Some excellent cards were returned. The following team has been chosen to represent llawera in a match against the Dannevirke Club, to be fired this evening: Mrs. Rae, Mrs. Smith, Miss Preston, Miss Ingram, Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs. McCormack, and Messrs. J. Petersen, F. Eae, P. Petersen, A. Wilson. C. Mureli, E. Thurston. The match is a ten shot one and the five best targets of the ladies and gentlemen are counted. The range will be open from 6.45 p.m.
