A-n action for maintenance brought by the Maharanee of Tikari against her husband, the R'ajah of Tikari, a young Indian nobleman of Bengal, was dismissed.

Plaintiff is an Australian girl. Miss Elsie Sitwell, whose stage name was Elsie Forrest. She visited India in 1904 in company with her husband as members of a. theatrical company and later the couple were divorced. She returned to India, adopted Hindooism and married Tikari. The case hinged on a claim for an annuity under a deed of gift alleged to have been made by the Rajah of Tikari. The judge, in dismissing the claim, declared the marriage with the Rajah of Tikari was illegal, because plaintiff’s conversion to the Hindoo law, and also because the divorce obtained from her husband was fraudulent "and without the jurisdiction of the court. The Rajah is now claiming the recovery of the Tikari family jewels from the plaintiff:

As the Maharanee of Tikari in 1913, Miss Elsie Sitwell paid a visit to’Australia, where, dressed in Oriental splendour and entertaining lavishly, she created a considerable sensation.
