A MINER KILLED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GREYMOUTH, Sept. 5. Albert Manderson, a miner, 26, was killed at 3.30 p.m. to-day while working in the co-operative mine of Manderson and party at Dunollie. AVhile engaged at the face a fall of stone occurred, crushing Manderson. Death was apparently instantaneous.

A MAN DROWNED

DARGAVILLE, Sept. 16.

Harry Darling, aged 45, a deck hand on the s.s. Aotea, was drowned at Ruawai wharf this morning. Particulars show that deceeased jumped on a scow alongside the wharf to tie a boat up, when he missed his footing and fell into the water. The tide was at half flood and running strongly. The mate on the Aotea saw the accident, but when a boat, which was launched from the Aotea.with all speed, reached the spot at which lie was last seen he had disappeared. It was a very dark morning, and although the boat cruised round for some time no trace was found. Police were despatched later on in the morning from Dargaville to continue the search. Deceased had only been on the ship for a night. It is believed that he formerly belonged to Whangn.rei.

HAND AMPUTATED. TE AWAMUTU, Sept. 6. William, Owens, farm manager at Hairini, in endeavouring to frighten a- dog by exploding a ping of "el’gnite with a detonator, was injured owing to a premature explosion. He was taken to- the Waikato hospital, and liis hand was amnutated at the wrist.
