NOXIOUS WEEDS.
A SERIOUS PROBLEM. {BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. Sept.'s. The noxious weeds problem cropped up during a. discussion on agricultural matters in the House to-day. Mr. K. S. Williams (Bay of Plenty) urged the Government to offer 6ome inducement to chemists and other scientists to discover some economic remedy for the blackberry pest. It would pay to offer a prize for £50,000 if a satisfactory remedy could be found. Mr. G. McKay (Hawke’s Bay) stressed the need of active measures bemjz taken to clear noxious weeds, especially blackberry, on Crown and other lands. The Minister for Agriculture (Hon. i i , oswr)l^1 - said the Government bad already offered a considerable sum of money for the discovery of a noxious weed eradicator.
