TOURIST RESORTS.

MORE PUBLICITY URGED

(by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 5.

Complaints that New Zealand’s attractions were poorly advertised abroad were made by several members 'in the House to-night. The Hon. W. Nosworthy. in reply, said lie was quite prepared to spend more money in advertising New Zealand if Cabinet would authorise it. The Economics Commission bad recommended that- the Tourist- Department should go out, but- he had saved it because he recognised it had a future. His trouble was that he could not show a balance-sheet; all he could show were out-goings. The money brought in by tourists could not be recorded, and the department was in consequence criticised because it did not pay.

He recosnised the importance of advertising New Zealand, and he would do his best with the money placed at his disposal. He proposed to place £20,000, on the supplementary estimates for development at the Waitomo Caves.
