SAD CASE.
DEATH OF AMATEUR CHORUS GIRL. RESULT OF BURNS. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WANGANUI, Sept. 3. Miss Lily Darby, who was desperately burned during the performance of? the “Gay Parisienne” by local amateurs on. Tuesday evening, passed away, to-night. The tragedy has caused a gloom and further performances of the play have been postponed.
It appears that the deceased and another member of the chorus, were in the dressing-room, when the deceased’s bat ignited by contact with the gas jet. She threw the hat on the floor and attempted to stamp out the flames, when her dress of cotton wool caught fire. In a moment she was a mass of flame.
was finally rolled in a coat and the flames were beaten out, hut not before terrible injuries had been inflicted. She was taken to hospital and lingered for twenty-four hours.
