SERIOUSNESS OF THE REVOLT.

Ihe seriousness of the position in Morocco is emphasised, in an official communique describing heavy fighting consequent on persistent violent attacks on the Spanish communications m the western zone. It says, that great forces must be employed, and consequently eight battalions are being despatched immediately from Spain, ihe situation calls for great coolness and firmness. The Directory feels compelled more than ever to exercise all its authority in both Spain and Morocco.

GIBRALTAR, Sept. 2. It us learned from a Spanish source that 00,000 reinforcements have been dispatched to Morocco- in the, past fortnight. Bursting shells were visible fn the African coast to-day from the heights of Gibraltar. Advices from Tangier state that Raisuli’s adherents have joined the rebels.

Ihe Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent states: “The possibility of the complete or substantial withdrawal of the Spanish army from Morocco is occupying the attention of Euirbpean chancelleries, since the substitution of local authority of some other power for Spain’s in the evacuated, territory will, inevitably raise problems under the convention. I gather that Spain’s readiness to make sacrifices to retain her zone have perceptibly diminished since the last Tangier convention, under which Spain’s claim for the premier position at Tangier has been subordinated to. that of France.”
