SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
MATAROA CLUB. I The third annual trials of the Mataroa Sheep Dog trials Club were held ip Mr. W. Coogan’s paddock, Mataroa on July 21st, 22nd, 23rcl, 24th, 25tli, and 26th. The entries received for the four events decided were as follows: —Class I, 50; Class 11, 70; Class 111, 50; Class IV, s—a5 —a total of 175. Class V. was not decided as time did not permit, though 50 entries were received for the event. Competitors were present from as far north as Auckland, •and as far south as Masterton; also from Inglewood, Kaiteke, Raetihi, Puatiti, Waiouru, Moawhango, Ohingaiti, Patea, Wanganui, Waitotara and Karioi. The total entries (250) is undoubtedly a record for New Zealand, if not for the world. In Class 1., the winner turned up in Mr. J. Scott,s John Peel (68pts. out of a possible 80) —a most consistent performer, having won this class three times in succession under three different judges. In Class 11. the course proved very difficult and only 11 dogs out of the total completed the course, the winner. Mr. R. Guthrie’s Rock, (41 pts. out of 45) putting in a good performance. The winner came from Waitotara. In Class in., some very good work was done. A Patea dog, Mr. Edgecombe’s Tweed, was first with 59J- pts. out of a possible 68. An Inglewood dog, W. V. Mclntyre’s Donald Bruce was second with 59 points. Class TV., for competitors under 18 years, was won by R-. Stent’s Jack, with 44 pts. out of a possible of 45.
