W.E.A. CLASS.

A meeting of the committee of the W.E.A. Class was held in the old Technical School buildings last evening, when the financial position was further discussed. It was stated that 36 members had been enrolled, and if the subscription ' was collected in each case a sum of £9 would be available. As a considerable portion of this amount would be needed in meeting expenses, quite apart from tuition, it was pointed out tnat some effort to obtain donations would have to be made if the class was to he continued, next year. A list was drawn up of those organisations and firms who might reasonably be expected to assist, and it was decided to approach them by'letter and in some cases by a deputation. Information was placed before the meeting showing that it was quite customary for local bodies, such as borough councils, county councils, and harbour boards, to assist. It was stated by Mr Sheat, the tutor, that Professor Hunter’s visit to Hawera had been postponed for a week. The professor had expressed a wish to meet .some of the business people of the town, and to enable him to do this it would be a good idea if some function could lie- arranged which would ensure a large attendance. One member suggested that as the Retailers’ Association intend holding a series of dinners,; at which matters relating to the welfare of the town are to be discussed the association might be induced to hold one of its gatherings on the evening of the professor’s visit, and it was decided to approach the association with this end in view, it lieing oointed out that Professor Hunter may have something interesting to say" upon those matters in which the retailers are at present much interested. A. number of members’ subscriptions were paid at the meeting, and it was decided to solicit payment from all who ha ve been enrolled.
