MURDER CHARGE

At the inquest on Murphy, the victim of the Cessnock tragedy, Andrew Jones was committed for trial on a charge of murdering Murpliy, whose body was found in a lonely pool in the bush. In a statement Jones said that Murphy, who was drunk, made an improper suggestion to him and tried to drag him into the bush. A fight followed, during which he knocked Murphy down and left him lying on the ground. He came back later and found him still prone and bleeding. He then dragged Murphy to the creek, intending to get water to restore him to consciousness, when the body slipped into the creek. Jones tried to get him out, but owing to the darkness failed. He. got frightened and went away.
