The Seamen’s Union decided to expel from the union all the original members of the crew of the Forsdale who took the steamer away on hem maiden run in defiance of the union. * PAY FOR MINE WORKERS. SYDNEY, Aug. 20. A . conference between the coal owners and the miners discussed the claim of unskilled workers in mines for a weekly wage of £o 10s whether they work or not. The owners declined to accede to the claim. The council of the Coal Miners’ Federation meets tomorrow to discuss the situation, which may involve important developments. FAILURE OF SHIPPING COMPANY. Received Aug. 21. 9.20* a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 21. The Patrick Steamships, Ltd., which October last introduced drastic freight reductions in the inter-State shipping trade, has decided to go into liquidation. Gaptain Patrick, managing director for the company, states that the cessation of operations had been brought about by insufficient support and the intense competition. QUEENSLAND LOAN. Received «Aug. 21, 9.20 a.m. BRISBANE, Aug. 21. The Assembly read a first time a Bill for raising a new loan of £9,000.000 covered by Government stock or inscribed stock. INTERCHANGE OF CRUISERS. MELBOURNE, Aug. 21. Arrangements have been completed for an interchange of cruisers between the Australian and Imperial fleets. Every three years an Australasian cruiser will sojourn with the British Navy and will be replaced by a British cruiser with a British personnel on the Australian station.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
