♦- FOR KING’S CUP. LONGEST EVER HELD. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Au<r. 13, 11.10 a.m. LONDON. Aug. 12. Ten famous flyers ascended at five in the morning for the longest oneday aerial race ever held, over 950 miles, for-dhe King’s Cup, starting at Mairtlesham, Suffolk, and passing Edinburgh, Dumbarton and Falmouth and finishing at Lee on Solent. The machines included one seaplane and two amphibians. Lieutenant. Jones, of the Air Force, was the first to pass Dumbarton at 8.15. King crashed, breaking his under carriage at Newcastle. Courtney, last winner, broke bis spinner, and landed at Brough. Hazy weather is likely to prevent record sneeds.—Reuter.
* Later. Though Jones, scratch man, finished with the best time, 7hrs. 20min. 52sfec\, Cobham, who was second last year, won the King’s Cun. R"tler was second, and MacMillan, of world flight fame, third. Courtney retired. Barnard, the winner in 1922, landed in a hayfield at Ayr and broke a propeller.—Reuter.
