AUROA.

A SUCCESSFUL BALL. The amsquerade ball held at Auroa on Wednesday evening proved a huge success, both socially and financially. About £3O or so will be added to the funds for the carnival queen candidate (Aliss Vine, of Alanaia). It was very gratifying to the promoters that so many responded to quite a novel evening’s fun; The hall was beautifully decorated, and with so many fancy costumes it looked quite gay and festive. The Premier Orchestra contributed the music for the dancing, considerably adding to the enethusiasm of everyone present. Extras were played by Mrs. Joyce (Hawera), the Alisses Evans, Heal, Aladdock, Vine, and Air. AY. Evans. The fancy dresses caused much merriment. They made a brave show in the grand mareii. Sarey Gamp seemed to carry all before her in her droll character, and was considered to be quite one of the best there. The following were some of the fancy dresses : Airs. Tomlinson, Early Victorian; Mr.

J. Bowie, Aeroplane; Airs Williams, Red Cros3 Nurse; Aliss AVhite, Hiawatha ; Aliss Vine, Pierrotte; Aliss Sanson, Indian Squaw; Aliss Smith, Eastern Lady; Air. J. AfcCarty, Cowboy; Air. Tomlinson, the-Joker ;• Air. Spence, Jockey; Air. A. Dunn,.Clown; Air. Roberts, Wembley Exhibition; Mr. Jack Hartley, Lady Help. There were many others, whose names were not available. The supper, as usual in the capable hands of Mesdames McCarty and Bradford and other willing helpers, was excellent, the tables being tastefully brightened with spring flowers and laden with dainties. It all looked very pretty. Altogether the management committee have every reason to be thoroughly satisfied at the good results of their endeavours to swell the funds for the benefit of the forthcoming carnival.
