RAWHITIROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the begining of the week the severe cold and heavy rain were hard on the few suppliers who were already taking milk to the factory. By Thursday conditions had much improved. That afternoon the Sunday school children gathered at the hali to bid fare well to one of their teachers. Airs. P. Hodgson, who has been the mainstay of the Sunday school for some time, but is now leaving the district. Alany of the mothers had come early and prepared a generous afternoon tea, set out on tables in attractive style. They know how all children enjoy a tea-party. Aliss Freda McNeil, on behalf of the pupils, presented Airs. Hodgson with a Doulton jug, saying it - was a small token of thanks for the care she had taken with them, and wished her good luck in the future. Aliss Edna May then handed a samll gift to Master Frank Hodgson. Airs. Hodgson suitably thanked both children and parents for their appreciation. The children gave a few. songs and recitations, enjoyed a few’ dances,-and altogether had a sociable and happy afternoon. On Friday the combined. Rawhitiroa and Pukengahu boys’ football team played Ngaere and Finnerty at Ngaere, and were badly beaten, but enjoyed a good game. All praise is due to the parents and committee-men who so kindly convey the hoys to these matches. They show a sporting spirit, which is a great encouragement and incentive to tbe boys themselves. The ladies, too, are extremely good "in providing afternoon tea.

There was a record gathering at the hall committee’s euchre party on Friday evening, the occasion being a sendoff and presentation to Air. and Airs. Phil Hodgson. The euchre prizes were won bv Airs Terry (winner of all the ten games) and Air. H. Robinson. The prizes were presented, as usual, after supper, but the chief interest of the evening was centred in a speech by Air. F. Silver, who expressed the regret local residents felt in losing Mr. and Airs. Hodgson from the district. Mr. Hodgson had always done his part in the school committee and the hall committee, and also in sport. Airs. Hodgson had done valuable work for .years in the Sunday school and on all social occasions when she could possibly help. On behalf of their neighbours Air. Silver asked them to accept a travelling rug and suit-case as small tokens of their goodwill and esteem. Air. Hodgson thanked all for their gifts and declared that he and Mrs. Hodgson would always look back with pleasure to the good time and good friends they had enjoyed in Rawhitiroa, and they felt sorry to leave it. They had felt really glad to do anything they had been able to do to help. Everyone then joined in singing “For they are jolly' good fellows,” and the hail rang with three hearty cheers. Dancing continued for several hours, and all agreed that they had had An unusually good time.
