STRANGE ACCIDENT.
ON FOOTBALL FIELD. TO MR. QUENTON McWILLIAM. Mr. and Mrs. A. McWilliam. of Umona, are at present in Wellington, where they were called hurriedly in consequence of the serious illness of their son Quenton (says the Eltham Argus). He was playing football, and at the time had a cut on one of his fingers. He was afterwards taken ill and has been suffering from lockjaw. It is a case that puzzles the medical fraternity, for the microbe of tetanus, or lockjaw, is usually found in the neighbourhood of stables. A theory is that as the ground on which young McWilliam was playing had been topdressed with manure, it is possible that his cut finger came into contact with the soil, thereby enabling a dangerous microbe to enter liis system. On Saturday his condition, thom/h showing slight improvement, was still such as to keep hi s parents in a state of considerable anxiety. Their rnanv friends in this district deeply sympathise with them and hope for speedy good news.
