MINE DISASTER
PIT TO BE FLOODED. NO HOPE FOR TWO MEN. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT MELBOURNE, Aug. 11. The daamge at the Wonthaggi mine is estimated at £20,000. The mine will be inoperative for several weeks, and nothing can be done to recover the bodies of Parry and Johnston until the pit has been flooded, and emptied. MINE EXPLOSION IN JAPAN. DEAD ESTIMATED AT 72. TOKIO, Aug. 11. Fifty-six bodies have been recovered. The dead are estimated at 72. The mine was not damaged.
