HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.

WORK IN SOUTH TARANAKI. At the meeting of the Hawera County Council on Saturday the chairman made some general remarks on the subject of the formation of the proposed power board for the district, and said that it mignt be necessary to make a small special rate to cover necessary preliminary expenses. He said that before the location could be fixed, when approved by local authorities, a requisition signed by 25 per cent, of the ratepayers concerned, would have to be presented. He added that only the preliminary work of defining areas, to protect the interests of the district, had been done. There were no proposals for spending money other than for preliminary work. The Hawera- Borough were appointing a canvasser to get signatures, and it was left for the chairman to secure a canvasser for the county.

It would be of interest to note that the boundaries of the inner and outer areas were as follow: —Inner, part of Hawera County southwards to the Tongahoe River, and thence up to the Taranaki Board’s boundary, Hawera Borough, Wnimate West County, Mann ia. and Normanby; outer, remttinder •of Hawera.
