RIVERLEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs B. L. Weobv (cha-ir), E. Gibbons (secretary), \\ . W. Lonsdale, J.. Stables, and M. E. Voullaire. the chairman reported that he had got the levelling done at back of school, and that the cost had been 365, considerably less than he had anticipated. He had also procured wire netting for new garden fence. Mr Lonsdaie reported having made arrangements re posts required, the price lor which was Is 6d per post, plus cartage. The action of the chairman and -Mr Lonsdale in the matters was confirmed, and the necessary accounts therewith passed for payment. Correspondence was received from the Education Board re the committee’s complaint as to the unsatisfactory state of the wash hand basins, that the matter had been referred to the architect to report on. Various accounts were passed for payment. The headmaster reported that further firewood was required, and the chairman undertook to endeavour to make arrangements re same. ( It was resolved to send a letter to the Education Board, thanking them for the assistance given in getting the school enlarged and remodelled. There was no further business, and the meeting concluded. GENERAL. Next Tuesday a dance under the auspices of the Hall Committee is to he held, which will he the last function of that nature to be held in the hall as it is at present, as the builders intend commencing work on the improvements and additions almost immediately. As this will be the windup of the tjresent season, besides being in the nature of a farewell to the old hall, there is sure to he a good attendance. Excellent music has been engaged, the floor is in perfect condition, and a good supper will, as usual, he put on. Cows everywhere are now coming in, : ) nr -l tiie milk supply i.s accordingly jumping un. At present the is separating, hut I understand that the turn over to cheese i.s to take place on the loth. The weather continues very changeable and unsettled, with over much rain. The barometer has been low. but on Thursday it rose 25 points. Thursday morning again gave a splendid parorama of the South Islands, which lay -bathed in sunshine whilst we were under clouds. The snow-covered mountains in the far south-south-west shone up very white in the sunshine.
