SPORTING.
STRATFORD IMAGING CLUB. The monthly meeting of the general committee was held on Tuesday, July 29. Present: Messrs S. Pitt (chairman). J. B. Richards, J. Frederic, A. W. Budge, D. J. Malone, A Stewart, IT. E. Abraham. an c \ Y. Smith. An apology was received from Mr. W. P. Kirkwood and leave of absence was granted. The solicitor reported that the matter of the purchase of extra property for motor-car accommodation is now in the hands of the Lands Transfer Office. In connection with the improvements to the west end, the chairman reported that the drains had been completed, exclusive of the drain to be constructed by the Golf Club. Owing to the inclement weather no action had been taken in connection with the levelling of the track. The matter of authorising the employment of extra labour for the purpose of getting tracks in order was discussed, the caretaker being authorised to employ such labour, and in addition the caretaker was instructed to proceed with the work of levelling the track as and when weather conditions permitted.
The matter of grassing the new portion of track was left in the hands of the chairman to instruct thie caretaker. Mr. Horner was requested to furnish report re completion of taxi track construction work.
A vote of appreciation, accompanied by a donation, was accorded Messrs Day and Gilbert, of New Plymouth, as some recognition of the services rendered by them in connection with their comprehensive report re traffic control.
The draft of a. letter to be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, re the club’s claims for extra racing permit, was lead and discussed. Mr. Budge urged that the cost of effecting improvements, plus extra cost to complete a comprehensive scheme, should be embodied. The letter was duly approved and instructions issued that the same be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Notification was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Racing intimating that a special committee had been set up to go into the question of more equitable' representation on the New Zealand Racing Conference, and requesting that clubs forward their ideas on the matter to the secretary of the Conference for submission to the sub-committee. It was resolved that action on behalf of the Stratford Racing Club in connection with this, matter be left in the hands of the chairman.
The annual report, statement of accounts and balance-sheet for the year ended June 30, 1924, was presented. Members expressed satisfaction with the year’s working;, as disclosed bv the accounts.
Before concluding the business of the meeting, the president (Mr. S. Pitt) expressed his thanks for the hearty co-operation and support 'extended to him by members of the' committee, officers and officials during the past year.
Accounts amounting to £45 8s 3d were passed for payment
