METEOROLGICAL.

REPORT FOR JULY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGH3 WELLINGTON, Aug. 7. The Dominion Meteorologist reports that the weather during the month of July was on the whole very dry, especially in the East Coast districts of both islands, New Plymouth and Patea being the only places in the table of the North Island centres showing falls above the average for the month. Westland and Otago, in the South Island, bad rainfalls above the average, although Dunedin and Invercargill had less than the average for the month. The barometric pressure was very high from the Bth to the 11th, and on the whole rather higher than usual. The days were generally fair and sunny, but the nights were frequently cold and frosty. Auckland experienced one frost on the morning of the 26th, but parts of Canterbury had frosts on 25 nights of the month. In the Wairarapa and other parts of the North Island from 22 to 23 frosts occurred, and Wellignton had 14. Some observers describe the month as mild, while others remark boon its coldness, both being correct according to their point of view. The month was, as is usual, colder than June, although one observer speaks of this period as showing a kind of “false spring,” there being a fair amount of grass.

There were two very cold spells, one from the 3rd to .the 6th, and the other l>etween. the 20th and 25th, the latter period being marked by heavy southerly winds, which arose from the development of a storm eastward of New Zealand. Snow fell during these two periods on the higli country of both islands. Excepting for these two disturbances the winds were generally moderate and of westerly tendency.
