WHEAT INDUSTRY.
PRICE OF BREAD. TRUSTS AND COMBINES. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 6. t The high price of bread was mentioned in the House to-day by the Hon. D, Bnddo (Kaiapoi) when discussing the production of wheat in New Zealand. Mr Bnddo said he had no time for trusts and combines, and he was inclined to think that some of these organisations were operating in this country not unconnected with the wheat, industry; at least, he was convinced that the price of bread was unduly high. lie thought some; inquiry should be held into this point, because, considering the price of wheat, there was no reason why the loaf should be as high as it was.
To help the wheatgrowers he advocated the establishment of wheat pools on similar lines to those set up in Canada. These pools were not intended to raise the pric-e of wheat, but to provide storage in which wheat could be held until the market was favourable to its disposal.
