COMMON ASSAULT.

HUSBAND WOUNDS WIFE. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 5. John Edward Jenkinson, aged 38, was charged at the Supreme Court today with wounding his wife with intent to commit actual bodily harm; also with common assault. The evidence showed that after some words the accused, who was shaving, advanced towards his wife and swung his arm round, the razor striking his wife on the neck. The defence was that the wounding was a pure accident. After a few minutes’ retirement the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the first charge and guilty of common assault under strong provocation. Sentence was deferred.
