Superintendent W. Fouhy, of Wanganui, who is shortly to retire from the police force, ha s nearly 43 years’ service to his credit, having joined the Armed Constabulary as a constable m September, 1881, and in that capacity he was transferred to Invercargill, in 1886, to Windham the follow, ing year, back to Invercargill in 1888 and in 1890 to Dunedin and .Roxburgh. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Christchurch in May, 1902, and was appoint, ed to the charge of the Ashburton station in 1905. In August, 1911, lie became a senior-sergeant and subinspector at Dunedin the following year. He .was transferred to Mew Ply! mouth in 1915, and was promoted to the rank of inspector at Invercargill in March, 1917. Transferred to Wanganui in February, 1921, he was elevated to the rank of superintendent in October last, and lias acted in that capacity since. Whjle stationed at Ashburton, Superintendent Fouhv was instrumental in the detection of s ly grog-selling after the coming into operation of no-license in that district. Police changes are announced as follows: Superintendent Fouhv (Wanganui) retires on August 4, and Sub-In-spector J. ' Mcllveney, of Christchurch, succeeds him. Sub-Inspector Cameron returns to Christchurch to take the vacant place, and the post in Wellington rendered vacant will be filled by the promotion of Senior Sergeant J. W. Hollis, of Whangarei, to sub-inspector. —Press Association. On the occasion of his retirement trom business, the Nelson Master Grocers’ Association presented to Mr G. F. Hingston an illuminated address, which reads as follows: ‘‘Me the undersigned desire to convey to von on your retirement from business our warm appreciation for the mutual good fellowship which existed between us in the association. and we would with von ne'er forget that the links of friendship forged on the anvil oi duty and service cannot he broken by youc,- retirement.
