IMPRISONMENT FOR SHOPLIFTING. (BY TELEORARH TRESS ASSOCIATION I CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. A young woman belonging to a respeetabe country family was sent to gaol for seven days for various thefts of ladies’ wear, the magistrate (Mr. II ilson) remarking that there was only one way to stop shop-lifting, and that was imprisonment. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. WELLINGTON, July 23. A young salesman named Eric Jones appeared at the Magistrate’s Court today charged with breaking and entering Sternberg’s second-hand shop, and ■stealing jewellery valued at £lB3. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial Accused was arrested at Auckland.
