NEW PLYMOUTH FATALITY. ELDERLY MAN KNOCKED DOWN. A inotqr fatality, involving the death of Air Charles Evans, aged 72, of IG4 Leach Street, occurred at the corner of Gover and Leach Streets about 6 o’clock on Tuesday evening, the deceased beink knocked down by a motorcar driven by Harry McNeill,'son of Mr J. McNeill, of New Plymouth. _ McNeill, who states he had . a clear view of the man, endeavoured to go '■round on the right-hand side, but when a few feet- off Evans made a dash across the' street in front of the oncoming car. The left-hand front mudguard then struck Evans and knocked him down. AlcNeill applied the brakes immediately and found the man lying in the rear of the car on the righthand side of the road. A doctor was summoned, but Evans was dead. Thei deceased was a married man, and was employed 'as a gardener at the Girls’ Friendly Society. He left for his work at the usual time in the morning, and, it is presumed he was returning home when the accident occurred.—News.
