CHINESE SOCCER TEAM’S VISIT.

Sir, —The executive committee of the Taranaki Football Association desires, through your columns, to express their thanks to the following ladies and gentlemen who so kindly came to our help in the matter of our guarantee for a match in Hawera. with the Chinese representatives now touring the Dominion.: Mrs. M. Cramp, Mrs. M. Gibson, Messrs. J. N. Anderson. AV. Adams, P. Bond, E. Burge, J. E. Campbell, J. R,. Corrigan, M.P , E. Dixon, C. O. Ekdahl. J. J. Goodwin, T. S. Jones. S. Pivac, F. J. Peters, ami-R. - Wilson, and the members of the affiliated clubs. AVhat Hawera owe to the liberality of these citizens can best be judged from the fact That, within twenty-four hour* s from the time that official word was received from AA r ellington that the tour would eventuate, we were approached with a proposal to liave the match in another town in the province. and the amount of our guarantee would be placed in /our hands immediately an agreement' had been ratified. To avoid dissension, no comment will be made on the paragraph appearing in your report of the Ha-wera-Retailers’ Association meeting, but one prominent tradesman will notice that his advice was taken. The Chinese team will arrive in Hawera by the mail train on Monday, August 4, and leave on Thursday morning en route for Auckland. The match against Taranaki will take place on AVednesday, August 6, at the Egmont A. and P. show grounds. Again expressing our appreciation and thanks —I am, etc., On behalf of the Committee, CHAS.
