DAIRY FARMERS.

CONFERENCE DECISIONS. PLACED BEFORE PARTY LEADERS (Bv Telegraph—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, July 11. The executive of the Dairy Farmers’ Union interviewed the Prime Minister this week to place before the Government the decisions of the recent conference regarding the moratorium, agricultural banks, taxation, and the constitution of the Dairy Control Board. Thi)y have also interviewed the leader of the Opposition (Mr Wilford), and today saw members of the Parliamentary Labour Party. They advocated an extension of the moratorium because, while not supporting this system, “they felt that there must he a gradual lifting, otherwise there wolud be extreme difficulty in adjusting the matter, and many dairy farmers would have to walk off their farms because they could not face the expense and uncertainty of Supreme Court proceedings, as suggested by the Prime Minister. They wished to see the State advances system strengthened to provide assistance for farmers in meeting their liabilities under private mortgages; also further assistance to returned soldier settlers, an increased supply of cheap fertilisers, a change in the system of representation in the Dairy Control Board, as the present method by not providing for the representation of individual suppliers disfranchised those who supplied proprietary factories.

■Mr Holland thanked the deputation for its information, and said it would he sympathetically considered by his party, which would net in accordance with the policy on which its members had boon elected. He realised that action must he taken about the moratorium.
