An Auckland message reports the death of Mr E. W. Burton, S.M. Miss Doreen Palmer, of Hauer a, has been added to the waiting list of probationers at the Stratford Hospital. The death of Mr Hartley Dewart, a lawyer and former leader of the Ontario Liberals, is renorted in a Toronto message. Second-Lieutenant G. H. Weir, of the laranaki Regiment, New Zealand Infantry, 2nd C. Battalion, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant as from June 4, and the appointment of SecondLieutenant (on probation) W. E. Scott (Ist Battalion) is confirmed. Mr R. A. Adams, of Auckland, has been appointed secretary and engineer to the Bluff Harbour Board at a salary of £750 a year. _ A * >reSs Association message from Blenheim states that Martin Healy, aged 11 years, died suddenly to-day from heart trouble. He had been in business as a bootmaker in Blenheim lor 5*2 years, and had been a borough councillor, a member of the School Committee and a member of other bodies. He was one of the oldest Freemasons in Marlborough. Calvin Coolidge, junr., the President’s son, aged 17, is dead (says a cable message). He had received a week ago a small blister on his heel while playing tennis. Septic poisoning developed, and he quickly became dangerously ill. Physicians operated on Saturday, slitting the left leg to the bone and inserting drains to carry off the poisons. The boy’s vitality susf'dned him through the day, hut inability to take nourishment for the past 60 hours induced a succession of sinking spells, from which he was unable to rally.
