PRICES OF SOLDIERS’ LAND REDUCED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! AUCKLAND, July 8. The soldier settlers on the Hauraki Plains at Torehape, Alangawhero, and Patetonga have been advised that the revaluation board has greatly reduced the prices of their sections. ' Each case was considered separately, but the general reduction appears to he about 50 per cent. In extreme eases prices were reduced from £lB to £5 per acre. The average reduction is about £7 per acre. The Dominion Board also recommended that arrears of rent he written off apcl rent remitted for two to four years, and that the Land Board grant loans. TENDERS FOR AUCKLAND MEMORIAL. AUCKLAND, July 8. The tenders for the Auckhmd war memorial are: Ransforcl Mills Construction Co., Wellington and Auckland, £183,654; Fletcher Construction Co.. ’Auckland, £186,940; P. Graham and .Sons, Christchurch, £234,300. They have been referred to a sub-committee, with power to act. SCHOONER. DRIVEN ASHORE. GISBORNE, July 8. The schooner War Lord was driven ashore during a gale last evening on the Opoutama bench, Mahia, and is now high and dry. The crew is safe. The vessel is reported to be undamaged.
