MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The public meeting held in the Manaia Town Hall last evening in connection with a farewell and’presentation to Mr and Mrs Collier on their departure from Manaia was well attended, the following being present: Messrs J. J. Meldon (chair), Mesdames B. Howell, D. Mitchell, T. Sutherland, F. Walker, W. Hill, E. Massey, N. Davis, IV Dee, W. Kerr, T. Hotter, Miss M. Franklin, Rev. A. C. Swainson, Messrs T. W. Armitage, N. Davis, C. Hunger, W. Badley, E. Long, Jas. Hickey, L. Walters, N. Innes, E. Massey, F. Walker, T. Miller, W. Belleman, P. F. Hammonds, J. Anderson, and J. Cosgrove. Mr P. F. Hammonds was appointed secretary and Mr T. W. Armitage treasurer.
The chairman in his opening remarks enumerated the good work of Mr and Mrs Collier during their residence in Manaia, and as Mr Collier was a most popular postmaster and Mrs Collier had done good work to assist in every worthy cause, the public of Manaia and district thought fit to give them a fitting farewell. Mr Collier had faithfully carried out his important duties for 40 years in the department, and Manaia- was to he the town where he terminated his duties. Mr Innes proposed, and Mr Belleman seconded, that all present form a general committee. It was resolved that on Friday week, July 11, a fai-ewell social and presentation be given to Mr and Mrs Collier. The following canvassers were appointed:' Town—Messrs N. Innes, J. Hickey, and J. Meldon. Inaha— Messrs ,W. Snowdon and F. Willcocks. Kapuni—Mr F. Walker. Kaupokonui —Messrs E.. Long, F. Gamlin, and A. Mitchell. Sutherland road—Mr J. Russell. It was resolved that all ladies present* form themselves into a catering committee and report progress at next meeting. Advertising and Music Committee— Messrs T. W. Armitage, J. Hickey, and J. Cosgrove. It was resolved that a progress meeting be held next Monday night at 8 o’clock in the Town Hall. The ladies’ committee met after the general meeting in connection with the necessary details for the catering. The meeting was most enthusiastic.
