RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent)

CHILDREN’S AGRICULTUR AL PLOTS.

On Monday of last week Messrs Symc and Smith attended at the local school, and then, in company with the headnuvster, Mr A. E. Mills, all the w'Vi 1 ' 611 , wh .° hil(1 l )lots ‘ r ‘"d Mr B. L. chairman of the Riverlea School committee (who kindly took the youngsters around in his car), visited the various plots and weighed and judged them, with the result that Mauirice. Webby was first in the mangold plots, with 9() marks, and Edie Hey first in the carrot plots, with 92 marks. The detailed marks were as follow: Mangolds.

I notice further notes from my would-be journalistic friend, “A Correspondent,” from River lea. My friend either should make sure of liis (or her) facts before setting pen to paper, or else leave the thing ‘ severely alone. Does not he (or she) know that the first essential of a good reporter is to report correctly, and not go pestering the editor with incorrect news? Last time I forgave my friend his (or her) sins, but if this thing is to become a. habit I’ll tire of forgiveness. Just to show my readers how reliable (sic) are my friend’s reports, I will: point out that the report consisted of only three paragraphs, and contained no less than three paragraphs which were incorrect. I will give these seriatum: —Error number one: My friend reports re agricultural plots, that Em." Gurgau and Edith Hey came first in these. As will be seen by the details above, Ern. Gargan was second in the mangolds, Marnie Webby beating him by three points. Error number two: Re singing class, this has been running for atleast three months, in fact if memory serves me rightly,- I think since ■ the middle of March. “A Correspondent” says “some two months.” Error number three: Re Joe Thoumal’s boxing class, ‘‘A Correspondent” says “this has been in progress some six or eight weeks.” Well, really, I dunno what to make of it. I always thought there were twelve weeks in three months, and sixteen in four, and as Mr Thoumahs class commenced either early in April or in March, and it is now the end of June, where do the “six or eight weeks” come in? When my friend next writes I hope he (or she) will not give me cause to go to all this trouble to point out errors. As I said before, the thing becomes monotonous.
